Finding Hoku

Hoku is set in the picturesque Dee Valley which is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. You can explore the historic town of Llangollen, hike the Welsh Hills or just unwind in your shack, overlooking the mountains of North Wales.

You can go for drinks at Gales wine bar, eat out at the Cornmill or if you want to cook up a storm visit Zingiber Wholefoods for local produce.

Getting to Hoku

Car:
1 hour from Liverpool
1 hour 20 from Manchester
3 hours 30 from London

Nearest station: Wrexham, it's a 25-minute taxi from there.

Once you arrive you can park at the bottom of the stone track and walk 100m to the shack or drive up to the top where it's a short 30m walk to the shack.

Hoku is perched just above the town of Llangollen, you can either drive down or if you fancy the challenging walk back up you can follow the footpath down into the town where you'll find lots to do.

You can check in with "Bearded Man Adventures" for a day of canoeing, canyoning, axe throwing, or archery.

Afterward, you can settle in for a drink at the Cornmill with amazing views across the River Dee, or drop by at Gales Wine Bar (the oldest wine bar in Wales).

Llangollen is full of great food and activities.

FAQs

How do you get to Hoku?
You can travel to Hoku by car or public transport. After your booking, our helpful welcome guide will explain both in more detail.

Once you've arrived, the walk to Hoku is about 100 meters up a short hill (in the summer, you can drive up to the top near the shack). Remember to shut the gates behind you! 🐑
When is check-in and check-out?
Check-in is at 3pm
Check-out is at 10am

You can choose the early check-in option at check out for an extra £25, then you can arrive any time after 1pm.
Is there a toilet and shower?
Every shack has an eco-composting toilet and a hot shower. We also provide eco-friendly toiletries, luxury towels, hand towels, and shower mats.
Is Hoku pet friendly?

All our shacks are pet-friendly, and we charge a flat £35 fee - whether you're bringing one dog or the whole gang. Just select the pet option at checkout. We include a welcome pack for pooches, including a water bowl, towel, poop bags and treats.

At Hoku:
Fencing - Fully enclosed for peace of mind.
Livestock - Some sheep occasionally nearby - dogs will need to be on a lead when coming to and from the shack.

Is there firewood included?
Yes, we supply a big bag of kindling and a big bag of logs. There is plenty for your stay. However, if you think you will be spending a lot of time by the fire pit, then you can purchase unlimited firewood at check-out for £20.
Where is best for food and drink?
Gales Wine Bar: The oldest wine bar in Wales. Not only is there great wine, Gales also serves up some of the best food in Llangollen, all locally sourced.

The Cornmill: As you walk through the door, you will be greeted by a great jumble of old beams everywhere and the water wheel turning slowly behind the bar. The decks outside are built directly over the mill race and the rapids, and on the opposite bank of the river, steam trains arrive and leave from the restored station.
What to do in the local area?
Llangollen offers many great activities, such as whitewater rafting, archery, and canoeing over the famous Pontcysyllte aqueduct. The area also has lots of great hikes. Read our article to find out more about the best hikes around.
Is the wild sauna included?
A Wild Sauna session can be added as an extra as part of your Shacks stay - or booked independently on it's own.
The Wild Sauna is not included in your booking unless it is chosen during booking.
The Wild Sauna can be added to Shacks stay bookings afterwards.

How far away is the wild sauna?
A short 2 minute drive from Hoku parking to the parking for the Wild Sauna.
It's then around a 4 minute walk to the Wild Sauna.
