Family-friendly days out in Cheshire

Visiting one of our child-friendly cabins? Or just in the area looking for days out to enjoy as a family?  This guide highlights top family-friendly days out in Cheshire, perfect for creating unforgettable memories with your little ones. From interactive museums to scenic parks, discover the ultimate spots for fun-filled adventures in and around Tarporley.

Locally known as ‘Castle of the Rock’, Beeston Castle is a place equally loved by adults and kids. Explore the fascinating history (kids will love searching for the lost treasure), and take part in a nature trail on the way up to the castle itself, before enjoying the most stunning panoramic view of the Cheshire countryside and as far as the Welsh mountains. Take a picnic, dog too, and tag us in your pics of our favourite view.

Delamere Forest is always a fun-filled day out for families. From adventure play areas, walking trails for all abilities, including The Gruffalo trail, and cycling and mountain biking trails (you can bring your own bike or hire one from the centre), there’s something for every kind of adventurer. If that isn’t enough, visit Go Ape, a high ropes course with zip lines for children aged 10 and over. On your way back to the car, be sure to stop at their cafe. They serve up a delicious English breakfast, ice creams of every flavour, and a huge selection of freshly baked cakes.

Find out all about the ‘Cathedral of the Canals’ at Anderton Boat Lifts very own interactive museum, before heading out to see this impressive piece of Victorian engineering. Watch the boats rise and fall or enjoy a family boat trip through the lift and along the scenic River Weaver. You’ll find a great playground, lots of lovely spots for a picnic, or visit their coffee shop with its full height window offering a fantastic view of the lift itself. Marbury Country Park is just next door if you want to extend your visit.

Walton Hall and Gardens:

Explore the most beautiful gardens, perfect for a leisurely stroll, play, or to simply relax and enjoy nature. Walton Hall itself is also open to the public, steeped in history, and oh so beautiful. They have their own on-site children’s zoo, a mini-golf course too, and frequently host family-friendly events, making it one of our favourite days out in Cheshire.
