Taking Your Baby Off-Grid: Everything You Need for a Stress-Free Cabin Stay
We’d love to give a huge thank you to Sophie @wherethewildlingsroam_ for sharing her brilliant ‘taking your baby off-grid’ tips from her recent stay with us – we’ve put them all together below.
Heading off-grid to a cabin with your baby might feel like a big leap, but with a little prep it can be one of the most magical early adventures you share together. Here’s everything we’ve learned – including some brilliant tips from recent guest Sophie – to help you take your baby off-grid and enjoy your cabin stay from the very first nap.

1. Cold Water Sterilising: Your Off-Grid Secret Weapon
We bought a portable cold water steriliser – a mini one that fits one milk bottle – along with some Milton tablets. Each tablet provides sterile water for 24 hours when dissolved. You can take as many bottles as you need and pop them in for 15 minutes; they’re then fully sterile. Once the 24 hours is up, simply wash and refill. Compact, no electricity needed, and genuinely brilliant for off-grid life.
2. Go Disposable with Nappies (For Now)
While reusable nappies are absolutely the greener choice, when you’re off-grid with no washing machine, disposables make life a whole lot simpler. If you’d like to keep things as eco-conscious as possible, there are some great brands worth trying: Bambo Nature, Kit & Kin, and Beaming Baby are all good options for biodegradable disposable nappies and wipes.
3. Travel Cot & Safe Sleep
A travel cot is a must, and as always, please follow safe sleep guidelines throughout your stay. If you’d like a little more space, our larger cabins – Altair and Sirius – give you extra room to set up comfortably.
4. Feeding On the Go
Always boil the kettle for any water you’re using for baby’s bottle. We’d also recommend bringing a rapid cool – those moments when they simply can’t wait for a feed are very real, and having one to hand will save your sanity.
Why Off-Grid is Actually Perfect for Babies & Toddlers
No screens, no schedules — off-grid life naturally strips back the noise, which little ones genuinely thrive in
Fresh air and nature — even babies sleep better outdoors; naps in the fresh air are a well-known parent hack
Slower pace — no packed itinerary means you can follow your baby’s lead, which takes the stress out of travelling with a little one
Undivided family time — no distractions means more eye contact, more play, more connection
Novelty is stimulating for development — new sounds, textures, and sights (birdsong, trees, open space) are brilliant for babies’ developing senses
You might surprise yourself — many parents find off-grid trips less stressful than city breaks because there’s simply less to manage
