Discover the Best Family Friendly Days Out in North Wales.

North Wales is bursting with fresh-air adventures, wild spaces and places to spark little imaginations. With the help of Sarah from North Wales Adventurers, we have the best family friendly days out in North Wales in a handy guide here. Plus a stay that brings you back to nature at the end of it all at Altair, our family-friendly shack in North Wales.

1. Loggerheads Country Park, Denbighshire.

A beautiful riverside walk with streams to splash in, caves to explore, and bridges to cross. It’s an easy, family-friendly trail with a lovely café and plenty of picnic spots.

Why it’s great for families: Shallow water for paddling, lots of wildlife, and a short circular route that suits all ages.

2. Llandegla Forest, Wrexham.

A brilliant spot for both beginner and advanced mountain biking. There’s a green family loop and a pump track, plus bike hire and a café with good coffee and flapjacks.

Bonus: There’s also a woodland walking trail and a lake for a gentler pace.

3. Llyn Brenig, Conwy.

This peaceful reservoir is great for walking, cycling, and picnicking. You can also hire bikes or try the adventure playground by the visitor centre.

4. Manorafon Country Park, Conwy.

Pet friendly fun with animals to feed, play areas, and seasonal events. You’ll find goats, alpacas, pigs, and a good dose of fresh country air.

5. Wepre Country Park, Flintshire.

A hidden gem with woodland walks, a play area, and the ruins of Ewloe Castle tucked deep in the trees. There’s also a stream for dam-building and space to let off steam.

Top tip: Bring wellies and a change of clothes – little ones love the water!

6. Talacre Beach, Denbighshire.

A wide sandy beach with a famous lighthouse, perfect for paddling, shell-hunting and sandcastle building. There are also dunes to explore and plenty of room to run wild.

For families with older kids or thrill-seekers, Zip World is a must. Think zip lines through forests, underground trampolines, and alpine coasters – there’s something for every level of brave.

8. Moel Famau, Flintshire.

A manageable mountain climb with a big reward – panoramic views from the Jubilee Tower at the summit. You can choose from shorter or longer trails depending on your crew.

Best for: Older kids and active families. Don’t forget snacks for a summit picnic.

After all that exploring, there’s nothing better than retreating to your own peaceful patch of nature. Just a short drive from many of these spots, Altair is our family-friendly shack in North Wales – designed with slow living, simplicity, and fresh-air freedom in mind.

With bunk beds, books and games, a fire pit, and views over the valley, it’s a place for barefoot mornings and marshmallow evenings. Go off-grid (without roughing it), reconnect, and recharge between adventures.
