Look a little closer.

The night sky is already putting on a show. We’ve just made it easier to see.

At selected Shacks, you can add a Seestar S30 smart telescope to your stay, and explore the night sky from your own private patch of countryside.

No astronomy degree required. No complicated telescope manuals. Just set it up on the tripod, connect your phone and choose what you’d like to see. The app does the clever bit, automatically finding and zooming in on stars, planets and deep-sky objects above you.

Then sit back and let the sky come to you.

Your own window into the night sky

Our shacks are already made for lingering outside after dark.

With little light pollution and private surroundings, they’re wonderful places to spend an evening looking upwards. Add a telescope and you can take that a little further – spotting planets, exploring distant stars and discovering objects you might never have noticed with the naked eye.

Take it outside with a blanket and a drink of something warm. Watch from beside the fire. Or, depending on the shack, settle into the outdoor bath and let the stars do the entertaining.

Sometimes the best plans are simply to look up.

How does the Seestar S30 work?

All you need to do is:
1. Set it up
Place the Seestar S30 on its tripod outside your shack.
2. Connect your phone
Open the app and connect to the telescope.
3. Choose what to see
Pick a star, planet or deep-sky object from the app.
4. Look up
The telescope automatically finds it and brings it into focus.
Whether you’re completely new to stargazing or already know your way around the constellations, there’s something to discover.

What can you see?

What you’ll be able to see depends on the time of year, your location and the conditions, but the Seestar S30 can help you explore:
The Moon
Planets – including bright planets such as Jupiter and Saturn when visible
Stars and constellations – find familiar favourites and discover new ones
Deep-sky objects – explore nebulae, star clusters and distant galaxies

Do I need experience?

No experience needed
You don’t need to know your Orion from your Andromeda.
The Seestar S30 is app-guided and designed to be accessible whether you’re picking up a telescope for the first time or already spend your evenings looking at the stars.
It’s a lovely one to share, too. Take turns choosing what to find, see what you can spot with your own eyes and capture a few images to remember the night by.
The only difficult part is deciding when it’s time to go inside.

What happens if it’s cloudy?

We think you should be able to book a telescope without having to gamble on the British weather.
Stargazing is best enjoyed on a clear night, but if your telescope experience is affected by excessive cloud or heavy rain, we’ve got you covered.
If conditions make stargazing impossible, we’ll give you the choice of:
A £10 refund
or
A voucher for a free telescope hire on a future stay.

How much does it cost?

The Seestar S30 is available as an optional add-on at selected Shacks for £30.
It comes with everything you need to get started, including the telescope and tripod. Simply add it to your booking and we’ll have it ready for your stay.

A night under the stars

There’s something about being away from the glow of towns and cities that makes the night sky feel different.

At Shacks, you have the time and space to notice it.

Add a telescope, step outside and see where the evening takes you.

The sky is yours to explore. Browse our cabins with smart telescopes below, or view our collection of cabins here.
