Digital Detox Breaks at Shacks

A different kind of digital detox break

digital detox break is more than just time away from screens. It’s a chance to leave behind the constant stream of notifications, emails and endless scrolling, and settle into a slower rhythm surrounded by nature.

But it’s easier said than done. Even on holiday, your phone comes with you, and the habit of checking it rarely disappears.

That’s why every Shacks stay is designed differently. Our handbuilt, solar-powered shacks sit on private, remote spots across the UK. There’s no Wi-Fi, and nothing competing for your attention except the landscape outside your window.

Every shack also includes a Kip device. Simply tap it to temporarily disable the apps that pull you in most – social media, email, news, shopping or whatever you choose. No willpower required, just the freedom to be fully present.

Why Shacks works

Unlike many digital detox retreats, there are no schedules, group activities or rules. Instead, we create the conditions where switching off happens naturally.

  • Off-grid cabins powered by solar energy
  • Private locations surrounded by nature
  • No Wi-Fi
  • Outdoor bath and fire pits at selected shacks
  • Dog friendly
  • Kip Life device included in every stay to help break the habit of checking your phone

By the second morning, most guests find themselves settling into a slower pace. Meals last longer. Walks become the plan rather than the gap between plans. Evenings are spent around the fire instead of a screen.

Frequently asked questions

What is the Kip device?

Kip is a small device included in every Shacks stay. Tap it to temporarily disable the apps you choose – such as social media, email or news – for as long as you like. It’s an easy way to remove the temptation to check your phone, helping you enjoy a true digital detox break.

Is there Wi-Fi?

No. All Shacks are off-grid and intentionally Wi-Fi free.

Will I have mobile signal?

It depends on the location. Most of our Cheshire and Staffordshire shacks have good signal, while our North Wales cabins vary.

What can I do without my phone?

Read, cook over the fire, soak in an outdoor bath or sauna (where available), explore nearby walks, watch the stars or simply enjoy the quiet. Most guests are surprised by how naturally the days unfold.

How long should I stay?

Two nights is enough to begin slowing down, while three or four nights gives you time to fully settle into the experience.

Can I bring my dog?

Most of our shacks are dog friendly. Check individual cabin listings for details.
